On my frontpage I have somethimes used extended backgrounds, and on the layout I've made the boxes with rounded corners. The trick is to make them match the extended background.
Step 1: Firstly, make a layout you want to have as your frontpage layout. I've made this one (click to enlarge):

Step 2: Select the Rectangle tool, which looks like this: . Before you make any rectangles on your layout, make sure your settings look like mine (the width also looks good in 2px):

Step 3: Also choose the colors you want to have on the rectangle before you make them. Then make two rectangles, make sure that the end goes out of the layout, so the end is all streight. Here's how mine looks:

Step 4: Save your layout! Then use your Crop tool, which looks like this: , crop the bottom part of the layout, like you see on the picture:

Step 5: The part you have left is the extended background you have to use, so it matches your layout. Go to Image >> Canvas size. Make the width 2000px, and the height the same as your background is already. Before you click 'ok', click on the arrow to the left.

Step 6: Fill in the transparent part with the same color as your background. Click here to see my finished extended background.

Step 7: Put the URL of the extended background inside the code under on your website, then put the layout on the page so it matches the extended background and you're finished!:)
