Remember Earth hour!
It’s soon earth hour. It doesn’t matter what country your in, just turn off all your lights from 8:30 – 9:30 pm. We’re ready here with candlelights and a deck of cards. Here it’s still 15 minutes to go. See you afterwards:)

Yesterday was the Crosby, Stills and Nash concert. You know the christmas gift Morten got from me. It was really fun being there and Morten absolutely loved it, so it was a big success. Even though I’m starting to get sick I managed to enjoy myself. I stayed home from school today, hopefully I’ll get better over the weekend:)
We took some photos with Mortens iPhone, here they are. We didn’t have the best seats, but it didn’t matter.

I started a new subject this semester for my external elective. I no longer have web design, instead I’m doing studio imaging (photo). So far I’m really happy with my choice. Everything we do is in class, which means I have more time for my communication design classes. The only thing we need to do when we’re not in class is to get all the equipment we need for each studio class, such as background papers, reflectors, clamps, tack-it etc. In our first assignment we had to photograph a black, white and gray paper. Kinda boring, I know, but we learned about exposure. Last week we shot a box and a tennis ball. First we had to take a photo where it looked like the ball/box was flat, then with shadows to make it look 3D. So far it’s been really fun working with lights and shadows.
We’re never going to photograph people in this course. It’s just like a basic studio photo course, where we photograph objects and learn the right ways to use the light and also what settings to use in our cameras. It will be perfect for when i need to photograph my portfolio.

Our little studio. Here’s Kristian in action. I’m working with Kristian and a girl named Emma, because there’s not enough studios for everyone.

This is one of the tennis ball photos we shot.
I totally forgot about you guys. Just for a little while. So much has happened this week and there’s also the fact that I’ve been too lazy to update my blog. First off we got a new assignment on monday. A branding assignment… again! Everyone was pretty bummed, the only positive thing is that it’s a real client again. The winners work will be out there and the winner also receives an iPad. Yes, please!
The client is Wildlife Victoria. They need money for their organization and therefore they want a new look. We’re gonna re-design their logo and make a new brochure (a hand-out thing). The biggest issue with the brief is that the client wants us to put the phone number in the logo along with the name and a tag line: On call to help. It’s just too much for a logo. I’m sure everyones gonna rebel and just do it without the number and the tag line. I think I’m gonna make two versions of it. But I’m not sure yet. If I can make it look good, then it won’t be a problem. Though it’s gonna be hard. Wish me luck. I’ll show you some of my progress real soon:)
We also went to Andrews 21st party this weekend. Turning 21 is a big thing down here, they go all out. Andrew served free drinks and he had set up for a rave party, with lights, speakers and a turn table. It was a fun night. I brought my camera, but unfortunately I didn’t take any photos. So these ones are “stolen” from Cathrine (one of the girls I live with).

Me and Morten on the metro. Look at the guy in the background.

Dancing.

This is what i wore yesterday, when we handed in our assignment. It’s fall in Melbourne, so it’s time to start putting on some more clothes.
We ended up not going to the exhibition yesterday, we were just too tired and wanted to stay home. Instead we went to the store, bought something good to drink and some candy, went home and saw 4 episodes of Dexter. I looove Dexter!

Wow, these past few days has been so stressful. I almost haven’t slept the past 48 hours. The first assignment was due today. Mine didn’t go too well, but as you all should know by now: I’m never really satisfied with what I make. I wish I had more confident in my work. I wish I had more confident in general actually. Oh well.
Now it’s up to the client to decide which branding she likes the most. No one really knows what she’s after. The only criteria we got was to make it “cool”, so I might get lucky. That would surprise me big time though. There was so many good assignments in that classroom today. Also Mortens’ branding is amazing. I have to show you the poster he made, not right now though, but some other day. He’s really talented!
Here’s a little preview of what I handed in today.

I’m off to sleep now, even though it’s only 2 pm. My bed and I have a lot of catching up to do. I’m also going to this exhibition later today. Our classmate, Eugene, is displaying his work there. So I have to charge my batteries. Bye.
So about the film I posted yesterday. In just a few days it has had 75 million views on YouTube and 16 million on Vimeo. It has raised tons of issues amongst all kinds of people. I liked the film till all the propaganda started after about 10 minutes. It really is a good idea letting the people know, because then the government has to do something about the problem, and the visual design for the whole “Kony 2012″ campaign is really good. It’s just that it is too good, and the movie is too well produced. How did they get all the money to finance something like that? Did they use the donated money from the people who actually cares?
After reading tons of articles and blogs, this is what I’ve discovered:
- The Ugandan army uses child soldiers
- Uganda has become a different country over the past six years. Since the LRA moved out.
- Kony is gone, and has been for six years. He might be in the Central African Republic and has only a few hundred in his army.
- Most of the 30.000 children who were abducted are no longer with Kony.
- Kony is in another country, why don’t Uganda ask for military help from them instead of the U.S.
- Making Kony “famous” could make him stronger and make him abduct more children.
- $10 millions of Invisible Children’s income last year went to the staff, their awareness raising and surplus, while $3 millions went to Central African projects.

I’m curious to see how this will end. And how the city will look after April 20. I still think the whole campaign is a really clever idea, it’s just that it is 6-7 years too late.
What do you think about all this?
I’m sure most of you have already seen this film. But If you haven’t, you absolutely should. For more information visit: kony2012.com.
I was supposed to show you me and Mortens room a while back, I’ve just keep forgetting it. So here we go:

Bed, plus my desk in the corner there.

My little work space and my necklaces hanging on the bed frame.

Where I keep my bracelets and rings. Got them at the Salvation Army for almost nothing.

Mortens work area. Everything of his is all black, while mine is white:)

Little hallway with closets, leading to our bathroom.

My closet

Our bathroom + me in the mirror!

More bathroom.
So that’s the tour. We were really lucky when we got the master bedroom. I love that we have our own bathroom.
Sorry for being absent the last week. Hard to keep updating everyday when I got so much school work. I really wanna show you the food van logo I’m working on, I’m just not sure if I’m allowed. Seen as this project is confidential till the client is ready to put the idea into life. You will see it sooner or later though, you know I always post the stuff I make:)
First week back at school is over. Feels weird being back, but at the same time it doesn’t. I’ve promised myself that I’m gonna work extra hard this semester, though I do that every single semester and it never happens. But this time I’m really gonna try. I’ve at least started off pretty good.
I actually stopped by just to show you my new top. It’s almost a little embarrassing to tell you were I got it from, cause it’s not a place I usually buy clothes: K-mart. Ha ha! Cost me $8, perfect for a broke student and I absolutely love it.
